The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden are a museum complex with an international profile, comprising altogether 15 museums and 4 institutions. These include the world-famous Old Masters Picture Gallery in the Semperbau at the Zwinger, the Green Vault at the Residenzschloss and the Albertinum with art from Romanticism to the present. With their encyclopedic holdings, they offer a thematic variety that is internationally unique in its kind. The museums have their origin in the collection of the Electors of Saxony and Kings of Poland. Historic sources prove that the Electoral Kunstkammer was established in the Residenzschloss by Elector August in 1560. To this day, the collections are committed to preserving traditions, developing visions and shaping the future.
