Night of Cultural Brands 2020 - The award winners have been determined

The winners of the 15th European Cultural Brand Award have been announced. From 112 applications, a total of 24 cultural initiatives qualified for nomination. On November 26, the winners of the eight competition categories were announced live from the Nikolaisaal Potsdam during an award ceremony on TV.

The Cultural Brand Award is the most advanced competition for cultural management, cultural marketing and cultural sponsoring in Europe and with it the prize sculpture Aurica is awarded. It stands for excellence, attractiveness and openness of the European cultural market and symbolizes the valuable mediation work of European cultural providers and the outstanding commitment of European cultural investors. 43 jurors decided on the winners and announced them this evening.

      

European Cultural Brand 2020

European Union Youth Orchestra

In the category European Cultural Brand of the Year 2020, the jury chose the European Union Youth Orchestra, which stands as a musical ambassador for Europe with outstanding instrumentalists from all EU countries. The project convinces through consistent brand management, brand identity and positioning and stands as a living orchestra of the European Union, which sets an example for the future.

European Trend Brand 2020

Deichman Bjørvika Library Oslo

The Deichman Bjørvika Library was named European Trend Brand of the Year 2020 as one of the most modern libraries in Europe. Through innovative, exemplary ideas, the new creative living room of the city of Oslo shows that the transformation from the dusty cliché of a library to a trend-setting contact place in the middle of the city can succeed.

European Cultural Manager 2020

Julia Grosse und Yvette Mutumba (C&)

The duo Julia Grosse and Yvette Mutumba were awarded the prize in the category European Cultural Manager of the Year 2020. In addition to the innovative team approach of the two curators, lecturers, journalists and editors-in-chief of the magazine C& for contemporary art from Africa and the Diaspora, the jury was impressed by their modern cultural management and their engagement with highly topical social issues.

European Cultural Investor 2020

Deutsche Post DHL Group

Deutsche Post DHL Group has joined forces with the Beethoven House in Bonn to promote knowledge of the composer's life and work as part of the multimedia touring exhibition BTHVN on Tour. The company received the European Cultural Investor of the Year 2020 award for its special support of the project. The decisive factor in the jury's decision was the aspect of cooperation at eye level, through which classical music is brought to the world.

European Education Program 2020

Center for Urban History of East Central Europe

European Education Program of the Year 2020 is the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe, based in Lviv, Ukraine. Founded in 2004, the research institute vividly works through the country's dramatic history while also highlighting its historical diversity. The project receives the award because of the outstanding presentation and communication of its history and sends a clear signal for Europe.

European Cultural Tourism Region 2020

Le Voyage à Nantes

Le Voyage à Nantes is the European Cultural Tourism Region of the Year 2020. One of the largest and most diverse cultural locations in France presents itself as a region with an exceptional heritage with outstanding thematic campaigns and a lot of courage. The inclusion of creative cultural providers and innovative ideas were further criteria for the jury's decision.

European Prize for Urban Culture 2020

Monheimer Kulturwerke

The Monheimer Kulturwerke received the European Prize for Urban Culture 2020. A young mayor with innovative ideas supports the transformation towards a holistic urban concept that uses culture as an incubator. The important projects develop from within the city and there is a consistent and participatory involvement of the whole city, according to the jury.

European Prize for Sustainability in the Cultural Market 2020

Futur 2 Festival

The European Prize for Sustainability in the Cultural Market 2020, awarded for the first time this year, goes to the Hamburg Futur 2 Festival, which approaches the question "What does the festival of the future look like?" with different approaches. The festival's lived sustainability has already developed a model character for others and conveys ecological awareness and social change with its creative, revolutionary approach.

Lifetime-Achievement-Award 2020

Leoluca Orlando

The Lifetime Achievement Award in the category European Cultural Manager of the Year 2020 went to the mayor of Palermo and member of the Sicilian, Italian and European parliaments, Leoluca Orlando. Through his work as a politician, but also as a cultural manager, Orlando stands up to the mafia and racism with bold cultural initiatives. In the eyes of the jurors, he has given impetus to a renaissance of urban culture in Palermo with unique, urban projects and, as an important voice in the alliance "Sea Bridge - Creates Safe Havens", has called for a migration policy based on solidarity.
