26. November 2020, Waschhaus, 10 am - 1 pm
Where once steamships were built, fish bred and the Russian army washed its tanks, today you can find the
cultural and adventure quarter Schiffbauergasse in Potsdam. In a creative environment between nature and
urbanity, history and innovation, the cultural houses of Schiffbauergasse offer a wide range of contemporary
cultural activities from art and literature to dance and theatre, museums and trade fairs. The concept of the
cultural quarter is becoming increasingly important as a meeting place, as it has the potential to activate
sustainable tourism and at the same time strengthen the social and cultural diversity of the location in the
long term. The workshop will make a significant contribution to its further development and draw up an
exemplary charter for a green cultural location as well as cornerstones for an ecologically sustainable
creative quarter.

Input What remains is the future - the UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein as a place of change. Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Noll Foundation Zollverein, Vorstandsvorsitzender | Foundation Zollverein, CEO
Zollverein is an outstanding example of structural change and as a symbol for an entire region. This is due on the one hand to the development of the location with the creation of new, innovative jobs at the "old coal site", but also in terms of its external image as a world heritage site with an outstanding future. To this end, the Zollverein World Heritage Site is facing the relevant future issues based on the United Nations' SDGs in order to avoid excessive museum implementation. In this way, coping with the major social challenges also becomes part of the further development of the "structural change at Zollverein", which also brings with it new approaches in strategy and in dealing with many individual issues. In the meantime, the topic of digitization has become a mega trend in all economic and social fields and is therefore also relevant for the World Heritage site based on economic and cultural principles. Zollverein should be perceived as an example location for change, but should also be a stage for debates around technological, economic and cultural change. The former mining site becomes a place of the knowledge society - the knowledge city Zollverein - of education and culture, a place that can identify with tradition and progress, rapid structural change, mining history and fiber optic cables alike.
