The change in society's values towards a lifestyle suitable for the generation of our grandchildren does not stop at tourism. The desire to travel to far-away regions and to experience foreign cultures with all senses and emotions is irrepressible. However, it is now more and more coming into conflict with the quest for sustainable travel and forms of slow travel. So to what extent can a sustainable development of this kind be achieved in the future? A tourism that enables the individual discovery of the ‘other’ and expands personal education, but at the same time prudently incorporates the environmental aspect in full - this is precisely what the cultural tourism providers of the future must accomplish. Moreover, the preservation of the identity of the destinations must also be considered. Worldwide tourism will continue to flourish both within and outside Europe and will present both consumers and cultural tourism providers with great challenges.

Smart and resilent - Sustainable destination management
Prof. Dr. Hartmut Rein Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, Co-Direktor ZENAT
Climate change and the corona crisis exemplify the need for future-oriented, innovative and sustainable management of (cultural) tourism destinations. Tourism and culture are the areas hardest hit by the corona crisis. Therefore strategies for their resilience and sustainability must be strengthened in destinations. The use of "smart" information and communication technologies can be a great opportunity for this, as shown by examples.
