"If I could start building Europe again, I would start with culture." Jean Monnet, Entrepreneur
Pop democracy or Euro punk? The values that shape Europe are more contradictory than anywhere else in the world, from Aristotle to Abba, from Shakespeare to the Sex Pistols. All have influenced us. They all are the humus of our cosmopolitan, tolerant European culture. Our European and thus also the regional culture becomes alive in the regions and cities of Europe and can be experienced in numerous museums, theatres and festivals. Public and private cultural providers generate a demand with their offers, forming the basis of a European cultural market that is accessible for all. In this track, both well-known and unknown utopians, visionaries and realists present their ideas on the future of Europe. They are the impulse-giving avant-garde that dares, experiments and provokes the new - thus opening the debate on the future of a cosmopolitan, diverse and post-national Europe.

European futures and future-proof cultural policies (engl.)
Robert Manchin, President Culture Action Europe
We are experiencing a tectonic change in our cultural landscape. Europe’s future is blurred and the cultural narratives that served as the motivation for unification lost their appeal to large segments of the European public. Forces that have huge impacts on every aspect of our lives range from technology, to the tools we use to communicate and share cultural products with each other, to climate change and the loss of our biodiversity. Our cultural policy responses need to adapt to this insecure, unpredictable future scenarios and forcefully represent culture as the basis of any European future.
