"Cultural properties are the cathedrals the 21st century"

Prof. Dr. Oliver Scheytt, Kulturpolitischen Gesellschaft e.V.

For several years now, a large number of European culture providers have offered to construct "brand architectures" that will strengthen brands through concrete corporate identities that can also act as motors of urban development. Striking buildings such as the Elbe Philharmonic Hall in Hamburg or the Louvre-Lens will increasingly attract visitors from around the world and help shape the images of cities. But less ambitious projects such as the redevelopment of old buildings and the regeneration of derelict industrial sites through culture can indirectly create a positive image, provide economic effects, and enhance the competitiveness of a city at both a regional level and beyond its borders. Such trends as climate neutrality and resource conservation are playing a groundbreaking role in the establishment and management of cultural properties. Here cultural providers are relying on a variety of measures.
