Topic B. Cultural Financing

"If money go before, all ways do lie open."

William Shakespeare

Which business models do cultural providers use to achieve their goals? What innovative models are there and what role do legal certainty and transparency play? Modern cultural institutions use various forms of public and private cultural funding. Public-private partnerships, marketing companies and support associations have established themselves in recent years in business structures. Many demands are placed on the different models, as they are designed to ensure the independence, creativity, and diversity of the cultural scene all at the same time. Though business models have been adopted and additional sources of income have been established, there are still issues concerning regulatory compliance and implementing internal company directives in the cultural industry. Compliance has become an indispensable part of modern corporate management, and it is also playing an increasingly important role on the cultural scene. After all, a compelling compliance policy creates more than just internal legal certainty and transparency. Even in the area of external relations, it is important to strengthen the confidence of sponsors, media partners, visitors (who should never be neglected) and supporting members in order to ensure the sustainability of cultural work.
