Berlin, Paris, London - one finds a dynamic art and cultural scene mostly in the large cities of Europe and less in rural areas. Yet regions away from urban agglomerations often hold undiscovered potential for flourishing cultural activities. Apart from public perception, rural areas lack the structures and networks that culture needs for its reception. However, a look at living spaces beyond urban centres and cities is worthwhile and shows that missing structures can be developed and that public awareness of cultural heterogeneity in rural areas is constantly growing. To break through urban filter bubbles, it will be necessary to conquer new public spheres. What are the financial challenges facing cultural work in rural areas with the constant growth of megacities? What can cultural initiatives do to build network partnerships and create political structures?
