Topic F. Reviving Industrial Sites

"Structural change begins in the mind, the rest is craftsmanship!" Prof. Hans-Peter Noll, Chairman of the Board, Zollverein Foundation

Industrial areas are the ideal projection screen for creative and sustainable ideas within the context of social change. With the ongoing transformation process of the industrial society towards a creative service society, they are charged with a new dimension of meaningfulness. It is precisely these industrial locations that exert a strong attraction on the creative industries and cultural organisers. The process of successful development is based on continuous urban planning in the area of conflict between classified heritage structures and new ideas. Here is a platform for finding an answer to the question of how to reconcile the divergent goals of heritage protection, urban development, creative industries, cultural education and new architecture. At this track, renowned experts will show how former industrial sites are developing into true power houses of the creative economy and creative locations of the future, which create unique, charismatic places in Europe through the preservation of history, the commitment of cultural providers, the revitalisation through cultural events and the settlement of creative service providers.
