European Cultural Tourism Region of the Year: #urbanana (NRW Tourismus)

The jury's reasoning: In cooperation with its partners Düsseldorf Tourismus, Köln Tourismus and Ruhr Tourismus, Tourismus NRW is using the #urbanana project to promote creative city tourism in this banana-shaped conurbation. Urbanana promotes the connection of urban areas in North Rhine-Westphalia with a broad approach that encompasses festivals, urban art, music and fashion, building a large sustainable network with original content. From the jury’s viewpoint, this project places new partnerships with local media on an equal footing with the promotion of collaborations between creative industries, the tourism industry and urban society.
